VaClaF: Vareš Classic Festival 2019
Everything flows, everything changes. And, we believe, grows. Panta Rhei as the 7th festival theme represents the flow of all things: the connections between the art, artists and audience, symbolisms in life and music, understanding and embracing an everlasting development and change. Change that never stops, the one that connects us and challenges us to be better, every time over and over again. Change as the only constant. Just as Heraclitus said: “no man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.”
Therefore, for the seventh edition of Vares Classic Festival we are ready to change. The concept itself is already different than all the other previous ones, since we are as well implementig the symbolism of the number 7. Festival presents seven days of concerts from 21 to 29 September, performed by seven musicians and one writer in the main programme, then seven rising star pianists, and finally – traditionally – over 20 young pianists and tamburasi from Vareš. Giving a platform to the next generation of artists, celebrating women in art, continuing our piano mission and passionately educating, inspiring and making music together.
The “ABA Trio” (Azra Medic on piano, Belma Alic on cello, Andrea Nikolic on violin) will present this year’s Opening Concert on Saturday 21 September in the Old Church in Vares. Its monumental programme includes pieces by Felix Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann (whose 200th birthday is celebrated this year) and Dmitri Shostakovich. We therefore continue to celebrate the artistic achievements of women alongside the most popular pieces of standard repertoire.
On Sunday 22 September, Vares’s Young “Tamburasi” will complete the festive opening of the Festival in the special ambience of the restaurant Mlin in Vares at 7pm.
VaClaF will also be hosted in Sarajevo for the first time on Monday 23 September at 7pm, in the concert hall of the Music Academy and High School Sarajevo where Azra Medić, Belma Alić and Andrea Nikolić will give a concert and a masterclass for students, thus widening our artistic vision and collaboration. On Tuesday 24 September and Wednesday 25 September, we will be back in Vares, where young pianists will present themselves to our loyal audience. Students of Vares Music School will perform their traditional concert in the school on Tuesday 24 September at 2pm. On Wednesday 25 September at 7pm, seven up-and-coming pianists will give a concert in the Old Church, thus symbolically marking this year’s festival theme. On Friday 27 September in the main hall of "Radnicki Dom" in Vareš, we will be hosting the fantastic BH writer Adisa Bašić in collaboration with the Public Library Vareš. Adisa will present her prose and poetry, while the superb Belgradian pianist Sonja Radojković will complete the musical side of the programme. The Final "Miholjski“ concert will this year take place on Sunday 29 September at 7pm in the Parish church in Vares. We will enjoy a combination of Bach and contemporary music performed by Strings attached Sinfonietta string trio (Alma Dizdar, violin; Aida Dajić, viola; Belma Alić, cello), Amela Frljučkić, accordion, and Andrea Nikolić, violin. Join us in Vares again this year, for another extraordinary musical journey!
